The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, has celebrated 2026 Children’s Day in a grand style with the children of an orphanage home in Awka.
The children, dressed in colorful uniforms alongside their teachers and proprietor, gave a warm and elated welcome to the NAWOJ delegation, led by the State Chairperson, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika.
Addressing the gathering, Comrade Ifejika expressed gratitude to God for the privilege to celebrate the special day with the children, noting that the visit was to wine, dine, and demonstrate the union’s love and concern for the welfare of the children.
Comrade Ifejika urged the children to remain well-behaved and to take their studies seriously so that they can realize their potential as future leaders of the country.
She further prayed God to grant them the wisdom and resources needed to succeed in life, build their careers, and become good ambassadors in society.
Responding, the Proprietress of the Orphanage, Mrs. Helen Eze, commended NAWOJ for remembering them.
She noted that the home has children enrolled in nursery, primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, emphasizing that a children’s orphanage status should never deny them their primary right to education.
Mrs. Eze used the occasion to call on philanthropists, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to assist the less privileged and show them compassion.
She appreciated NAWOJ for making the children feel belonged, adding that while money cannot solve every human problem, the physical presence and moral support of the union members who act as mothers and aunties to the children, add immense value to their lives.
The Proprietress concluded by offering prayers for God’s blessings upon those who have continued to make sacrifices for the well-being of the less privileged.
The event featured donations of various items by the Association , cutting of Children’s Day cake, accompanied by songs, dances, and heartfelt prayers offered by the children for the members of NAWOJ.
