A former member of Anambra State House of Assembly and Commissioner for Transport designate, Mr Edward Ibuzo, has expressed concern over the number of security checkpoints on the Enugu –Onitsha expressway.
Radio Nigeria Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that Mr Ibuzo stated this in an interview with Journalists shortly after appearing before the Screening Committee for Commissioner Nominees at the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex in Awka .
He noted that part of his major priorities would be to address the multiple police and other security outfits checkpoints on major roads in the state.
According to him, there are more than fifteen checkpoints of different security organisations between Onitsha and Awka axis of the Enugu – Onitsha expressway.
" We need a lot of overhauling, we need synergy, transport has to do with environment. From Onitsha to Awka we have more than fifteen police checkpoints, these are part of the things I want to address, because we should be friendly with the people playing the road, they are there for us to protect them. "
Mr Ibuzo explained that the situation calls for action to make driving on the road more friendly for motorists and commuters.
He emphasized that there were much work to be done especially as it concerns the overhauling of the transport sector of the state.
" We want to make the street friendly, , the parks are supposed to be managed well, recently, let it not be anymore agbero workam happy, am greatful because this is the kind of what I believe in me, and I know that I will do and do well for the people of Anambra state "
The Commissioner designate assured residents of the state that the transport sector will soon wear a new look, pointing out that the ministry will work in synergy with other ministries to ensure that roads in Anambra were made vehicle-friendly.
