Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake says her appointment as first female SSG demonstrates Governor Soludo’s recognition of women in decision making and leadership roles for sustainable development in the area.
Mrs Nnake, who made the remark when the Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Awka, described women as very diplomatic, thorough and sincere in carrying out responsibilities with some level of sincerity.
She noted that a system based strictly on merit and competence rather than gender, maximizes productivity and innovation and ensures that the most qualified individuals occupy key positions.
Mrs Nnake encouraged women to disregard false societal narrative that women are inherently less-suited for leadership, urging them to be assertive and avoid unnecessary apologies.
Rather the SSG charged women to show resilience and believe in themselves to enable them trive in positions they find themselves.
She however expressed worry that lack of support and trust among women can be a source of hindrance to their political or career advancement and appealed to the women to create safer spaces where mutual upliftment is prioritized over rivalry.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Ifejika who earlier Congratulated Mrs Nnake on her new appointment, as first female SSG in the State, described the appointment as an honour well-deserved given her visionary and dedicated leadership.
Comrade Ifejika noted that NAWOJ is a strong advocate of women empowerment and community development, and pledged the support of the Association in providing platforms for publicizing government policies and programmes as well as amplifying their achievements across the state to counter misinformation.
NAWOJ Chairperson while suing for more recognition of women in the scheme of things, appealed to Mrs Nnake to always acknowledge invitation to their programmes.
NAWOJ also paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Protocol to the Anambra State Government, Professor Frank-collins Okafor, who expressed delight in welcoming members of the Association.
He expressed profound appreciation to the journalism profession, while commending NAWOJ for its dedication in reshaping and remodeling the society through its factual and impactful reportage despite the hazardous nature of the job.
Prof. Okafor also promised his support to the Association.
