Anambra state now provides free blood pressure in primary healthcare centres across the state as part of efforts to combat hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.
The Commissioner for Health
Doctor Afam Obidike made this known during a press briefing to mark this year’s World Hypertension Day in the state.
According to the commissioner, about 90 percent of blood pressure monitoring and related healthcare services are currently being carried out at the primary healthcare level to ensure easy access for residents, especially those in rural communities.
He stressed the need for increased public awareness on the importance of regular blood pressure checks, noting that many people live with hypertension unknowingly due to its silent nature.
Doctor Obidike urged the residents to take their health seriously by constantly monitoring their blood pressure and knowing their health status.
Dr. Obidike further explained that healthy living, regular exercise, and proper dieting remain key measures in reducing the risk of hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.
In a remark ,the Coordinator of Non-Communicable Diseases in the state, Mrs Adaku Egoh, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health for its continuous support toward the success of the awareness campaign on hypertension.
