Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu says the recently inaugurated Nnenna Oti Central Bus Terminal in Umuahia and the Abia Green Shuttle Electric bus scheme have positioned the state among sub-national governments in Nigeria with massive investment in modern transport infrastructure.

Speaking with Newsmen at the Government House, Umuahia, Prince Kanu said the projects were designed to promote safety, efficiency, affordability and sustainable mobility while supporting economic growth.

He explained that the Aba Central Bus Terminal currently under construction will have 40 bus shelters, charging stations and other transport service provision centres when completed.

Prince Kanu said the state’s Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centres in Aba and Umuahia are now operational, noting that the centres provide modern vehicle testing services aimed at improving roadworthiness and reducing accidents.

The Commissioner for Transport, Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu announced that the state government would implement the migration of commercial transport operators to the new bus terminal in Umuahia in phases.

Dr Ukaegbu further explained that the Abia Green Shuttle buses had already commenced operations from the facility.

Responding to concerns over salary arrears of workers of Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme, ASPIMSS, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, said the affected workers had been integrated into the state civil service system.
