A support group of President Bola has distributed thousands of sanitary pads to female students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka to promote menstrual hygiene.

The Woman leader of the group in Anambra State, Mrs Adaora Soludo Ibekwe, who is also the daughter of Governor Charles Soludo, while disturbing the item said the initiative was carried out on behalf of the president to sensitise the girls on the need to maintain proper and to mark World Menstrual Hygiene.

Mrs Soludo-Ibekwe explained that the gesture was part of the group’s commitment to support the welfare and dignity of young women in tertiary institutions in Anambra State.

Mrs Soludo-Ibekwe explained that the donation and distribution of the item was powered by the City Boy Movement which she described as a platform for youth mobilisation, health living, civic engagement and grassroots participation in national development.

According to her, the World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration and distribution of sanity pads by the group marks the beginning of a broader initiative designed to position the group as a unifying force and driver of positive social impact across the state.

She described Menstruation as a natural part of womanhood that should never be treated as something shameful, embarrassing, or hidden.

Mrs Soludo Ibekwe regretted that many young girls still face challenges during their menstrual cycle because they lack access to sanitary products, proper information, or the support they need while some even classes, and important activities simply because of menstrual-related difficulties.

She told the students that menstrual hygiene is not just about the use of sanitary pads but also about cleanliness, self-care, confidence, proper health education, and ensuring that no girl feels limited because of a natural biological process.

Some of the beneficiaries including Edith Oguchukwu, Chinyere Okoye, Mercy and Nancy Okah expressed appreciation for the gesture, but called on the government to consider downward review of the prices of the commodity.
