Anambra State Police Command has commenced investigation into a suspected child trafficking incident at a private hospital in Awada Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
A statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga explains that a thirty seven year old lady, Anurika Nweme had been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
According the Statement, eyewitness accounts disclosed that the suspect in the afternoon of 23rd June 2026 allegedly gained access to the hospital premises disguised in attire resembling that of a nurse, and was observed making secret video recordings of newborn babies in the maternity ward.
The suspect when confronted by the hospital staff and other persons present reportedly claimed to be an employee of the hospital.
However, upon verification, the management of the Hospital confirmed that she was not a member of its staff.
The Statement adds that the suspect was however rescued from an angry mob by Police Operatives attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters.
It further says the suspect is currently assisting the investigating police officers in identifying others involved, and that further developments on the investigation will be communicated as they unfold.
