About One Hundred and Twenty Eight persons have been arraigned and convicted for drug related offences in the last eleven months by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Anambra State Command.
Similarly five hundred and fifty suspects comprising 475 male and 84 females were also apprehended by the NDLEA withing the same period.
The state Commander, Mr Charles Onubuogu stated this in Awka while speaking with journalists on this year’s commemoration of the fight against illicit drugs.
The NDLEA state Commander said the agency has counselled and treated Ninety Nine male and three female, making it a total of One Hundred and two persons.
According to Mr Onubuogu, the fight against drug abuse remains a source of worry and concern to all and can not be left in the hands of one person to solve.
He therefore encouraged all stakeholders including the media to key into the wider initiative of the agency led by the Brigadier General ,Buba Maruwa,retired.
The state Commander who noted that the agency tackle drug problem through balanced approach of demand and supply reduction said drug dealers are arrested,investigated and prosecuted as well as seize the drugs to hinder circulation.
He stated that the agency also embark on sensitization of the people about the dangers of drug abuse thereby helping them the right decisions of staying off drugs while operating a rehabilitation centre at the Command.
He revealed that since his assumption of office eleven months ago, over One Point Eight tonne of different drug categories like Cocane , Cannabis, among othershave been recovered by the agency in Anambra State.
