Police Operatives in Anambra State have recovered the bodies of twin infants dumped in a drainage channel in Okpoko, Ogbaru local government area.
The bodies were recovered in the early hours of today by the Operatives attached to Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters, following report of abandoned two lifeless infant twins in a drainage channel along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State Tochukwu Ikenga said, that the operatives swung into action in receiving the report secured the scene, gathered vital evidence and commenced investigations.
He said that preliminary investigation led to the identification and arrest of the biological parents of the infants, who are currently in Police custody and assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as a disturbing case of man’s inhumanity to man and a gross violation of the sanctity of human life.
He declared the Command’s commitment to ensure that anyone found culpable in the incident faces the full weight of the law.
