Two persons have been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in separate attacks in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The attacks were carried out on Sunday evening.
According to a statement by the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga , three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla opened fire on the victims at different locations within the city.
The statement emphasises that the operatives of the Command on receiving distress calls about the attacks mobilised to the scenes of the incidents and recovered the bodies of the victims along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka.
The bodies were taken to a hospital where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
While the identity of one of the victims is yet known,the second victim was identified as Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu a well-known comic personality, comedian, DJ, MC and media figure in Awka who often drove around the city in his vehicle making public announcements and entertaining the residents.
Police recovered the sum of ₦7,550, one POS machine, an ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scenes.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Ama, has strongly condemned the attacks and directed intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining areas to track down the attackers and bring them to justice.
