Many civil and public servants reported for work today in Anambra state after the Easter Holiday.
A good number of workers were seen in their offices at Jerome Udorji State secretariat , Awka, when Radio Nigeria visited the area.
Correspondent Uche Ndeke who monitored the resumption attributed the impressive turnout of workers to duty to the steps taken by Governor Chukwuma Soludo who visited the secretariat unannounced two weeks ago to check unchallant attitude to work by some civil servants.
The Federal Government had declared Friday 3rd and Monday 6th April public holiday to enable the Christian community in Nigeria join their counterparts across the globe to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus christ.
Before nine of,clock many workers were seen in their offices, exchanging pleasantries and discussing about the easter holiday while cleaners engage themselves with the task of tidying the offices to ensure a clean environment for efficient and effective service delivery
A Director in one of the ministries who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Governor Soloudo action in visiting the secretariat two weeks ago was in order as it was aimed at improving public service delivery.
Another respondent, Mr Joseph Obumse noted that it takes a resolute decision by an astute leader to instill discipline in civil service and make civil servants to adhere to stipulated guidelines.
Mr Obumse however appealed to the state government to provide its workers with necessary tools to make them function more efficiently.
However the situation was different at Ebele Ofunneamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat in Awka, when Radio Nigeria visited the area around ten o’clock in the morning as some of the offices were locked.
