The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative Chief Benjamin Kalu has pledged to respond to the calls of his people and supporters of All Progressive Congress party in Abia state urging him to declare interest for the state gubernatorial seat at the appropriate time.
The Deputy Speaker stated this when the people of his constituency irrespective of their political parties trooped out in their numbers at Bende Town calling on him to contest for the Abia Governorship position in the 2027 General elections.
Chief Kalu while expressing joy for the grassroots support he received from his people, thanked them for the confidence they reposed in him to advance the more and assured them that he can only respond to their call at the state capital as stipulated by the constitution of the country.
The Deputy Speaker who explained that he was in town to celebrate Easter with his kinsmen described the event as a surprise package and pledged not to disappoint his people.
Earlier, the people of Bende Local government Area, the home town of the Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Kalu unanimously called on him to vie for the Abia state gubernatorial position.
The people who trooped out in their numbers in spite of their political parties said the call followed the transparency conduct, honesty and people oriented projects of the Deputy Speaker over the years he has represented them at the federal level.
In the separate speeches of the Bende stakeholders, including Chief Orji Udeagha, Dr Madukwe Ukaegbu, Professor Hagler Okorie, Chief Cosmos Ndukwe, and Mrs Chisara Chijioke all appealed to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives not to ignore the calls of his kinsmen who have shown him love and loyal support.
The highpoint of the event was the equipping of the Deputy Speaker with the traditional war regalia by the Elders of Bende signifying home support and preparation for the contest ahead for victory.
