Rangers International of Enugu defeated Abia Warriors 3-1 in their Matchday 7 encounter of the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League at the Awka Township Stadium on Sunday.
The Flying Antelopes took the lead in the 37th minute through Godwin Obaje. Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled the advantage four minutes into the second half.
Abia Warriors reduced the deficit from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute when Chukwuemeka Obioma converted.
Rangers sealed the victory in stoppage time as Akorode Daniel scored the third goal in the 90+5th minute.
The result keeps Rangers at the top of the league table with 16 points from seven matches.
Abia Warriors remain in the lower half of the standings.
The fixture was played at the Awka Township Stadium, which Rangers are using as their temporary home ground while renovation work continues at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in Anambra State, Patrick Agha Mba said the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo which is sports loving, will continue to ensure a conducive and friendly environment while it play home to the Flying Antelopes.
Technical Advser and head coach of the Abia Warriors, Imama Amapakabo in interview said his boys created far better chances but were not able to convert them into goals and were complacent in defnce.
Amapakabo regretted that an infringement in the 4th minute of the game did not produce a red card against Rangers Player which would have been a penalty in favor of his team.
Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that the Awka Township Stadium was filled to capacity as the fans cheered Rangers International to victory.
