The Anambra State Police Command has described the early morning attack on settlers in Agu-Ifite, Awka on Tuesday this week as a deliberate criminal act orchestrated to destabilize the prevailing peace in the state.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, notes that residents of Anambra State have continued to exhibit strong unity, tolerance, and commitment to peaceful coexistence, refusing to be provoked into divisive ethnic narratives.
The statement points out that collective maturity, was deployed to thwarted the plotters objective during the Tuesday
as the police swiftly mobilised a Joint Security Team to the scene.
According to the statement the team engaged community leaders, representatives of the affected settlers, and other key stakeholders to rebuild confidence, gather firsthand information, and coordinate enhanced security arrangements.
The statement urges the public to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to provide credible and timely information to security agencies on the incident.
Four persons were reportedly killed, while two huts in the settlement were set ablaze during the assault before police operatives moved in to restore order.
