The 2026 Elective National convention of Labour Party organized in Umuahia the Abia State capital has ended with Senator Nenadi Usman emerging the National Chairman of the party and a former House Representative member, Chief Iheanacho Obioma the National Secretary.

In her acceptance speech, the newly elected National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, thanked the party faithful for their confidence and pledged inclusiveness and transparency.

She called for unity and cooperation among party members, stressing that building the party requires collective effort by all stakeholders.

In his remarks, Governor Alex Otti who applauded the leadership of the Labour Party for organising a hitch free and inclusive convention, noted that the 34-member National Working Committee reflected national inclusiveness and unity across all geopolitical zones.

The Governor urged the new national leaders to prioritise reconciliation and expand the party’s base through active engagement and electronic membership registration.

Earlier while declaring the National convention open, the chairman of the 2026 Elective National Convention Planning Committee, Chief Ginger Onwusibe described the national convention in Umuahia as a critical moment for consolidating internal democracy and strengthening the party’s national relevance.

Chief Onwusibe said the emergence of the new national officers followed their adoption by delegates through a consensus and affirmation method, after a formal motion was passed to dissolve the party’s Caretaker/Interim National Working Committee.

In their separate goodwill messages the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr Festus Osifo and the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress ,NLC, Mr Joe Ajaero all said that the convention marks a defining moment for both the party and Nigeria’s struggle for social and economic justice.

Correspondent Peace Agbo reports that two National Directors, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state and other officials of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, witnessed the presentation of certificates of return to all the elected officials of the party.
