The National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone has been inaugurated by the wife of the Present Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, performed ceremony at the old Governor’s lodge Amawbia during her visit to the state.
The wife of the President also used the visit to inaugurate the empowerment of 5,000 vulnerable people in Anambra State under the Progressives United Against Poverty Programme, an initiative supported by the State Government under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Support Scheme at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka .
Senator Tinubu said the South-East zonal food bank is designed to protect vulnerable and poor groups from economic hardships.
According to her , the programme targets widows, elderly, persons with disabilities, nursing mothers and young children with essential food assistance and nutrition education.
At the inauguration of empowerment for 5,000 at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, the First Lady stated that the programme formed a core component of the Renewed Hope Initiative and is aimed at grassroots development the reduction of hunger and improving human capital indices across Nigerian communities.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo expressed appreciation to the First Lady for choosing Anambra State to launch the food bank initiative, describing her as a loving mother and supportive wife and a mother who cares for the vulnerable.
The Governor said that the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration in the micro-economy, infrastructure and efforts to tackle insecurity offered reasons for hope to Nigerians.
In a remark the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, appreciated the First Lady for prioritising the health, nutrition and the welfare of children, youths and women.
She commended her for deploying the Renewed Hope Initiative to support vulnerable Nigerians and promote economic empowerment.
Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council conferred the Chieftaincy title of Ugoeze of Anambra State on the wife of the President.
