The Chairman of the Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB), Enugu State, Dr. Amaka Ngene, has attributed the remarkable progress recorded in the state’s education sector to a robust database system and a zero-tolerance policy towards truancy and absenteeism.
Dr. Ngene made this known when the Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye, led a delegation of postgraduate students from the Institute of Peace, Conflict Resolution and Development Studies, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), on a good governance study tour to Government Technical College (GTC), Enugu.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Ngene said the successes recorded, particularly at Government Technical College, were made possible by the commitment of Governor Peter Mbah to revolutionizing education in the state.
She conducted the visitors round the remodeled institution, showcasing its fully functional Automobile Repair Unit, Welding and Fabrication Department, Computer Laboratory, Hospitality and Catering Department, among other workshops. She explained that through subsidized school fees, senior students acquire practical skills and trades that prepare them for productive futures.
According to her, the institution is now far better equipped than it was in previous years, adding that Governor Mbah’s administration has made the dividends of good governance visible to the people and has surpassed the United Nations’ recommendations for educational development within the last three years.
Expressing satisfaction with the facilities and level of transformation witnessed during the visit, Dr. Nwoye, who is also a lecturer in Peace and Conflict Resolution and a Good Governance tutor at ESUT, stated that sustainable development can only be achieved when education is accorded top priority.
He commended Governor Peter Mbah for his developmental strides and for granting the STVSMB Chairman, Dr. Amaka Ngene, the support and enabling environment needed to drive technical and vocational education in the state.
Some of the postgraduate students who accompanied Dr. Nwoye also expressed delight over the changes they observed, noting that Government Technical College, Enugu, has witnessed significant improvement compared to what it used to be in previous years.
They attributed the transformation to good governance and later posed for group photographs with Dr. Ngene and their lecturer, Dr. Nwoye.
