Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have foiled a suspected kidnap plot and arrested a 66-year-old man for his alleged involvement in a fraud syndicate operating in the state.
The suspect, identified as Kenneth Nnaji, was arrested by men of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Awkuzu, on the evening of Friday, 11th July 2026, in Awka.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nnaji belongs to a three-man criminal syndicate specialising in obtaining money under false pretences across Anambra and Enugu States.
A Press Statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga said that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to his role in the syndicate and provided useful information on their modus operandi.
He said that the group reportedly disguises its members in branded overalls and caps, posing as representatives of reputable companies.
They allegedly collect goods from victims under the pretext of taking samples, then lure them to another location with promises of larger quantities at discounted prices, before defrauding them.
The suspect named other members of the syndicate as Christopher, Jacob Musa, and Joseph, whose surnames are yet to be ascertained and the trio are currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and always verify the identities and credentials of persons claiming to represent companies before engaging in business transactions.
Orutugu directed the investigating team to conduct a thorough probe, arrest the fleeing suspects, recover proceeds of the alleged crime, and prosecute all those found culpable.
The Press Statement confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
