Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered illicit drugs valued at Six Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira and the sum of Five Hundred and Ninety-Eight Thousand, Four Hundred Naira in cash following the arrest of two suspected hard-drug dealers in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Nzube Onyedikachukwu, alias “Onyeoma,” aged 47, and Ugochukwu Azia, aged 20, were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday 11th August 2026, when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed a suspected criminal hideout in the area.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga says a search conducted at the hideout led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs, as well as the cash.
The operation was carried out in furtherance of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu’s directives on sustained intelligence-led operations and the dismantling of criminal hideouts across the country.
The statement explains that It forms part of the intensified efforts by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Ama, against criminal elements and their operational bases in the State.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects are allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, while the location was being used as a gathering point by suspected criminal elements after carrying out their operations.
Some of the suspected criminals reportedly fled the scene upon sighting the Police.
The suspects are currently in Police custody as investigation continues to establish the source and distribution network of the suspected illicit drugs, identify other persons connected to the operation and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the recovered cash.
The Commissioner has reiterated that the Command will sustain intelligence-led raids, targeted operations and proactive policing aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and denying criminals safe havens within the State.
He urged residents, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to continue supporting the Police with credible and timely information on suspicious persons and criminal activities.
