The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has advised youths in the state to stay away from drugs and crime but instead channel their energy to positive endeavours.
He made the call while addressing the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, in his office ahead of the forthcoming SWAN Games in the state.
SWAN State Secretary and Radio Nigeria Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that the Sports Week, themed “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment,” is scheduled to hold at Cosmilla Sports Arena, Awka from August 20 to 21.
The Commissioner of Police also called for the cooperation of the media and the good people of Anambra in the task of making the state crime-free and safe for all.
Mr Ama, noted that sports was not only vital for mental and physical alertness but positive channelling energy, especially among youths to resourceful ventures.
He approved the participation of the Police team in the Games and promised to reposition the Sports Directorate of the Command to winning ways.
Earlier, the Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, Chimezie Anaso, said the event is designed to promote physical fitness, mental alertness and healthy relaxation among journalists and participating teams.
The Anambra State Football Association and All Stars Football Club of Awka have also signed to participate in the Games.
