Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has pledged to give maximum support to the newly elected leadership of the Labour Party in the state to enable them to excel.
Governor Otti made the pledge at the State Party Secretariat in Umuahia after the party’s successful and peaceful congress where the faithful, unanimously elected new chairman, secretary and other committee members of the party in Abia State.
The Governor who pledged that his administration would work closely with the new leadership of the party to ensure a seamless take-off as the general elections for 2027 gather momentum described the outcome of the congress as the dawn of a new era for the party, called for unity and cohesion and noted that the days of internal division in the party were over.
The Governor, while acknowledging the contributions of the outgoing leadership led by Sir Emmanuel Mwenze Oti, commended him for piloting the affairs of the party all through its challenging era.
Earlier, the Special Advisor to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr Achor Obioma, outlined the process leading to the state congress, noting that the activities began at the ward and local government levels before accumulating in the state congress.
Speaking to Newsmen, the newly elected state chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Azubuike who is from Obingwa local government area emerged as state chairman noted that the party is fully prepared for the 2027 general elections, dismissed opposition threats and gave his assurance that the party will retain power in the state.
Correspondent Peace Agbo reports that the Labour Party Congress, which attracted party delegates, stakeholders and observers, including officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, is an advancement in consolidating the Labour Party’s organisational structure in Abia State.
