About two hundred and fifty indigent Abia residents are to benefit from a five day free medical outreach in collaboration with Abia state government and Abia-US based medical practitioners.

The Commissioner for Health Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya-Uche who announced this to Newsmen at the Government House Umuahia on the level of preparation for the programme in the state said there will be free surgeries and general consultations in Abia General Hospital and Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Center, Umuahia.

Professor Ogbonnaya-Uche said the 25 US Based doctors alongside the home based doctors would concentrate on eye surgeries, complex dietary problems and gynecological surgeries with hope to perform 100 surgeries during the exercise.
According to the Health Commissioner, 80 workers are to be trained on basic life support procedures to them to handle any of such in the state.

He noted that the essence of the medical outreach was to extend high quality, affordable care to the residents, and ensuring universal health coverage for the people of the state.

While stressing that there is another layer to this exercise, Professor Ogbonnaya -Uche said there will be a lecture on sexual reproduction and provide participants protective commodities to ensure healthy sexual lives.

Contributing, the local team Coordinator and the Director General of the Abia State Agency for Control of Aids, ABSACA, Dr Uloaku Emma-Ukaegbu, said necessary arrangements have been concluded to ensure the success of the programme.

Dr Emma-Ukaegbu, explained that the window is still open to welcome more persons desiring for the free medication and treatment.
