The Anambra State government has flagged off the Solution Preseason Football Tournament in Awka.
The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr Patrick Agha Mba performed the kickoff ceremony at the Awka Township Stadium on Monday.
Solution FC and Edel FC, the two Anambra-based Nigeria National League clubs, are the top seeds in the eight-team tournament.
Other participating clubs are Olive Charles FC, Peace FC, Alleluia FC, Bona FC, Ozalla FC and UC Diamond FC.
Mr Mba said the platform forms part of the government’s commitment to youth talent discovery, grassroots sports development and the building of a sustainable sports economy.
He explained that the preseason tournament would enable the two NNL sides to prepare adequately for the league season ahead, while giving footballers the opportunity to showcase their skills, compete for places in bigger clubs and keep their professional careers on track.
The Chairman of Anambra State Football Association, AnSFA, Chikelue Iloenyosi, thanked the Anambra State Government for partnering with the association to stage the tournament.
Iloenyosi described Anambra as the home of sports and restated the association’s determination to return the state to its days of glory.
Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that the Solution Pre-Season Tournament is one of the initiatives boosting sports in the state.
