The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the disappearance and murder of a 33-year-old Lady in Oraifite community, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
The suspects are 26 years old, Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20 years old.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra state, Mr Tobechukwu Ikenga said that the the lifeless body of the Lady was found inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite.on March 14, this year after the mother reported her disappearance to the police the previous day.
According to him the deceased’s father later identified the body as that of his daughter.
He explained that detectives of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, through sustained intelligence gathering and digital forensic leads traced the crime to the two suspects and arrested them on the 6th of this month.
During interrogation, the principal suspect, Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, reportedly confessed to the murder.and claimed that he had been in a three-year relationship with the deceased, unaware she was married.
He alleged that after a disagreement with the deceased’s husband, he developed a strange illness affecting his sight, which led him to nurse resentment and plot the attack.
The suspect further confessed that on March 13, this year he lured the deceased to his residence on the pretext to needing help him due to his illness.
Continuing he said that upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete with which they killed her and later
dumped her body in the culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Orafitie in the early hours of the following day.
In a reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the detectives for their resilience and professionalism in unraveling the three-month-old case.
