The Anambra State Police Command says it has commenced the enforcement of the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu against the use of unregistered vehicles, concealment, defacement, alteration of vehicle registration number plates in the area.
The directive followed rising cases of unregistered vehicles and deliberate number plate concealment, which hinder identification and public safety efforts.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga calls on vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered and that their registration number plates are properly displayed and visible at all times.
It warned that any act of covering, bending, defacing, removing, altering or using unauthorised number plate constitutes a violation of the law and will be met with stipulated sanctions.
The statement while calling on all motorists to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with all vehicle registration requirements and avoid any action that could conceal the identity of their vehicles, states that officers deployed for the exercise have been directed to carry out their duties professionally, courteously, and in accordance with the law.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu said the enforcement exercise is aimed at strengthening security, enhancing intelligence gathering, and facilitating the prompt identification of vehicles used in the commission of crimes.
Mr Orutugu further reaffirmed the commitment of the command to ensuring safety and security of all residents and visitors in the State.
