The Police Command in Anambra State has arrested a thirty three year old man Ifechukwu Okechukwu in Umusiome village, Nkpor for alledgly killing her girlfriend, Chinasa Chilaka.
The incident occurred on the third of this month when the deceased visited the man who was her boy friend in his residence in Nkpor.
Until her death miss Chilaka was a student of College of Nursing Services ,Alor in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state.
She was reported to have left her home on the 3rd of this month to visit her boyfriend Ifechukwu who lives in Umusiome village Nkpor.
Reports say that Ifechukwu who hails from Enugu State same as Chinasa has proposed marriage to the deceased which she turned down but they still kept their relationship.
According to the report, Ifechukwu after allegedly killed the twenty three years old girl called her family and claimed that she had been kidnapped.
The story however took a different turn one week later when Ifechukwu parked his property and was about to escape when a neighbour who knew about the disappearance of the girl friend alerted the family members who contacted security operatives that apprehended him.
The accused upon interrogation confessed that he killed the girl and showed the security agents the shallow grave where he buried her remains in the compound where he lives.
This lead to the exhumation of the girl’s body from the grave.
The head of local vigilante service in Nkpor, Mr Chris Udeze described the incident as unfortunate and advised young girls to always disclose their movements to their trusted family members in case of unfortunate development.
The Chairman Anambra State Chapter of National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives, Somtochukwu Afamefuna
said the painful incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety and security of student nurses in the country.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra state , Mr Tochkwu Ikenga said that the suspect has been taken into custody by the police and is being investigated.
