The President of Progressive Abia Youths, Mr. Daberechi Ekejiuba says Nigerian youths are resilient to overcome challenges confronting them in the contemporary society.

Speaking during a one day Abia Youths Extraordinary Convention at the International Conference Centre Umuahia, Mr Ekejiuba stressed the need for government at all levels and other relevant stakeholders to involve the youths in decision making, programmes and policies of the government.

Mr Ekejiuba explained that the aim and objectives of Progressive Abia Youth was to promote, champion interest and empower youths to contribute positively in the growth of the Abia and Nigeria at large.

The President expressed the resolve of the group to closing the gap between government and youth, empowering youth to participate effectively in governance and consolidate on achievements of the founding fathers’ stressing that if the ideologies and ideas were not transferred to the youths, the society would risk the future of not having young people able to handle issues of governance.

The non-governmental organization had in 2023 partnered with INEC to register 74,299 voters and distribute 200,000 PVC as well as distribution of 54 laps in the state.

He encourages participants to eshew social vices such as drug addiction and other social ills capable of tarnishing and ruining the future of Nigerian youths.

Mr Ekejiuba further urged the youths the youths to venture in to agriculture and trade rather than waiting for white colar jobs which are not readily available.

Correspondent reports that the event which gathered over one thousand Abia youths has the theme “Reimagining Governance : Youth Leadership, Technology and sustainable National Development.
