Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Dr. Victor Umeh, has distributed 250 bags of 50-kilogramme fertilizers, 10 irrigation pumping machines and ₦2.3 million to rural farmers in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The empowerment programme, held at Isiagu, was aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and improving farm yields.
Senator Umeh said rural communities remain the backbone of food production and deserve support to achieve bumper harvests.
He commended the farmers for their commitment to feeding the nation, describing agriculture as a major driver of national wealth creation.
The Chairman of the NDC in Anambra State, Chief Ikem Uzoezie, described farmers as critical to the social and economic development of the country and praised Senator Umeh for the initiative.
Also speaking, a community stakeholder, Mr. Ifeanyi Morgonu, and the Leader of Isiagu community, Chief Isaac Nwokoye, expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to rural farmers.
