Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi have arrested three armed suspects and rescued a kidnapped victim.
The Police-led joint security team acting on a credible intelligence stormed a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area to successfully execute the arrest and rescue operation.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, says the three suspects arrested were 25 year-old Chidalu Obi, 26 year-old Chichebem Ojenigbo and 20 year-old Chikannechukwu Eze, all male.
According to the statement, one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) were recovered from the suspects.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job.
On arrival at the agreed location, the victim was forcefully blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush at Umuezeala Awuda where he was held captive.
The statement adds that the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted collecting Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible.
