Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anambra State Police Command acting on credible intelligence have arrested a sixty five-year old suspected secessionist member, Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo in Umudioka community, Dunukofia Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, in the State, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, discloses that a careful search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of an Army uniform and expended shells of ammunition concealed in a black polythene bag.
Preliminary information revealed that the suspect is linked to a criminal gang agitating for self-government.
According to the PPRO, the suspect has been taken into custody for investigation, while efforts were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the recovered items and his alleged activities.
The statement further adds that in the evening of the same day that operatives of the command also raided a suspected criminal hideout in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects in the age bracket of twenty-five and forty years.
During the operation, a sizeable quality of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and other substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama reiterates that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols and coordinated raids to dismantle criminal networks, disrupt illicit drug activities and deny criminal safe havens across the state.
The CP further directs that the ongoing raiding operations of criminal hideouts, drug-selling spots, and other identified areas of criminal activities be intensified and sustained.
