As preparations for 2027 general elections gather momentum, Participants at a two day Federal and States Security Administrators’ Meeting in Umuahia the Abia state capital have been advised to come up with practical and measurable decisions aimed at enhancing national stability.

The host state Governor, Dr Alex Otti who gave the charge while declaring open the conference reaffirmed Abia’s commitment to collaborative security governance.

The Governor said that security remained the foundation for meaningful development and described the conference as a strategic convergence aimed at deepening coordination, intelligence sharing and institutional synergy between federal and state authorities.

Earlier, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, stressed the need for improved security coordination and early preparation to ensure credible and peaceful 2027 general elections.

The SGF , represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office, Mr Mohammed Danjuma, said that preparations for the elections require robust security arrangements pointing out that the meeting becomes necessary as political activities for the 2027 general elections approach.

Also, the National Security Adviser, Mr Nuhu Ribadu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Governance and Sub-national Liaison, Mr Asishana Okauru, reaffirmed the Federal government’s commitment to closer collaboration with states to enhance national security architecture.

According to him, effective security requires coordination, trust, and structured engagement across all levels of government and
described the hosting of the meeting in the South-East as a reflection of the improved security situation in the zone.

In an interview with newsmen, the Co-Chair of the FSSAM and the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Borno State, Prof. Usman Tar, said that the platform was designed to review Nigeria’s security situation and enhance inter-agency collaboration.

Correspondent Peace Agbo reports that the meeting has representatives of security agencies from 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to assess threats to national security and territorial integrity.
