The National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, has called for the collaboration of the Abia Government for the establishment of a study centre in Aba.
The Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Uduma Orji Uduma, who made the call when he the university’s management team on a courtesy visit to Governor Alex Otti in his Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government country home.
The Vice-chancellor noted that Aba, being one of the largest commercial cities in the country, deserved a befitting NOUN study centre to serve the educational needs of residents and expressed concern that the South-East currently had only eight study centres despite the region’s strong educational heritage and contribution to national development.
He appealed for support of the state government to enable it to upgrade the existing study centre in Umuahia..
Responding, Governor Alex Otti assured the management of the University of the state government’s support in upgrading the Umuahia study centre and establishing a new one in Aba.
Governor Otti noted that education remained a top priority of his administration, stressing that about 20 per cent of the state’s budget had consistently been allocated to the sector in the last three years.
