The federal government has distributed relief items worth millions of naira to victims of an attack at Agu -ifite Awka, In Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The items include 400 bags of Beans, 400 bags of rice and 400 cartoons of Spaghetti among others.
The Director General of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Zubaida Umar said the items were meant to cushion the impact of the attack on the herder Community.
Represented by the Head , Enugu Operations, Mrs Priscilla Madukwe, .the NEMA Director General said the agency received the report of the attack in July and visited the area with relevant stakeholders to sympathise with the victims and assess the impact on the people.
The Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor who was part of the delegation that presented the items commended the victims for believing in the federal and Anambra state governments and not taking the law into their hands.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the leader of Arewa community in Anambra state and the National Patron of Meyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria , Gidado Siddiki thanked the Federal and Anambra state governments for the gesture and renewed the call for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the attack.
Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that four people were killed in the attack which occurred in July this year.
