The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Sector Command, has recovered a suspected stolen tricycle in Awka.
The development followed the presentation of documents for the registration of the tricycle by a staff member of the Anambra State Motor Vehicle Authority on the FRSC National Vehicle Identification Scheme portal in the name of a Priest of the Catholic Diocese Awka.
During verification, the NVIS Desk Officer discovered that the tricycle had earlier been registered in the FRSC database.
The existing registered owner, Mr. Okoye Obiwenite of Ikenga Ogidi, was contacted and he explained that he had given the tricycle to one Mr. Aniagbaoso Nnamdi Chigozie on hire purchase.
Further inquiry revealed that the tricycle was reportedly stolen on 27th December 2025 after Mr. Chigozie parked it at his residence.
A statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer Margaret Onabe notes that the verification also showed that the number plate JJT357VD found on the tricycle at the time of recovery was not assigned to the vehicle in the FRSC NVIS database.
The recovered tricycle is currently secured at the FRSC Anambra State Sector Command while the persons connected with the transaction have been handed over to the State Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, commended the effectiveness of the NVIS verification process in detecting discrepancy and preventing the unlawful registration of the suspected stolen tricycle.
She urged members of the public to always carry out proper verification of vehicle particulars and ownership before purchasing or transferring any vehicle or tricycle.
