Authorities in all the primary healthcare facilities across Ebonyi State have been charged to ensure proper storage and timely distribution of the Small Quantity Liquid Base nutrient supplements and Hygiene kits to the beneficiaries to reduce cases of malnutrition among children in the state.

The state governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, gave the charge at Nkaliki the headquarters of Abakaliki Local Government Area during the ceremony to officially launch the distribution.

Governor Nwifuru, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Professor Emmanuel Echegu, explained that the state government in collaboration with Helen Keller International, spent huge amount of money to procure the supplements and emphasized the need for proper storage and immediate distribution of the commodities to guarantee their efficacy.

He cautioned the authorities in the Primary Healthcare centers in the area against the sale of the supplements, pointing out that anyone caught in the act would be severely punished.

The Permanent Secretary in the state ministry of Health, Dr. Lawrence Ezeoko, lauded the World Health Organization, Unicef, Helen Keller International and all the development partners for their support and urged nursing mothers to ensure proper use of the supplements to wipe out malnutrition among Ebonyi children.

The Programme Manager of Helen Keller International, Mr Michael Eveshoyan thanked the Ebonyi State Government for providing the enabling environment and encouraged nursing mothers to take their children who are between six and twenty three months old to nearby primary health facilities to access the supplements.
