The People of Anambra state have joined the international community to commemorate Olympic Run Day 2026.
Hundreds of residents who turned out for the event, walked through Aroma junction down to Unizik temporary site junction , to Kwata junction terminating at the Awka township stadium.
Sports enthusiasts, athletes,fitness experts, football lovers including the Chairman Anambra state football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi and members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Anambra state chapter also participated in the Olympic Day Run.
The state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development , Mr Patrick Agha- Mba who led the match encouraged the people to embrace sports as major way of keeping fit and living healthy.
He said the Olympic Day Run promotes fitness, peace, love and togetherness across the globe.
Mr Agha- Mba who used the opportunity to commend the Healthy Living Initiative of the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo which has helped to encourage many people to embrace the Olympic sports lifestyle.
A representative of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Miss Jane Okoye said Olympic Day represents a very powerful event that celebrates the joy of moving together, developing mindset, confidence and the connect with each other.
She noted that sports remains universal, unites the people and gives a sense of belonging to the participants.
Radio Nigeria Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that the People later participated in aerobics at the Awka township stadium before ending the day.
