Anambra State Police Command has clarified reasons for ongoing impounding of vehicles with tinted glasses in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement, reveals that the action is part of a security exercise aimed at verifying the authenticity of tinted glass permits.
It is also aimed at identifying forged or fraudulently obtained permits, ensuring due process, enforcing compliance with vehicle registration and number plate registrations and preventing criminal elements from exploiting such violations to evade identification and perpetrate crime.
While regretting the inconvenience the exercise is causing to law abiding residents, the statement adds that it has become necessary in view of the prevailing security concerns and the increasing use of such vehicles by criminals to hide their identities and frustrate law enforcement efforts.
The Command therefore appeals to members of the public for their understanding, patience and continued cooperation, assuring the public that the exercise is conducted in the interest of safeguarding lives, just protecting property and enhancing public safety across the State.
