The Anambra State Police Command says it has taken into custody a Police Officer allegedly connected with the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija.
The Command, in a statement issued by the Police PublicRelationsOfficer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the officer has been identified and is now in custody following the unfortunate incident.
The police Command said full-scale investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death to ascertain the facts and ensure justice is served.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep regret over the incident and commiserated with the family of the deceased child.
He assured the public that the Command will handle the matter with transparency and professionalism.
The officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation and other administrative procedures in line with the Nigeria Police Force disciplinary processes.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid actions that could incite tension, assuring that no one found culpable will be shielded from justice.
The Press Statement noted that further updates on the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.
