The Anambra State Government has declared that it is working to designate autonomous communities as the fourth tier of government in the state.
This initiative follows a recent Supreme Court judgment that has resolved long-standing disputes over the existence of autonomous communities.
The government will introduce a community administration law containing a specific schedule of communities that constitute each local government area.
The Governor made the remarks while addressing members of the State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Light House in Awka
He noted that the legislative step is aimed at resolving ongoing tensions, particularly those surrounding the operations of town unions.
While town unions currently govern many communities, Governor Soludo emphasized that they are voluntary associations, which has led to instances of multiple unions existing within a single community.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on its mandate and noted the transition from the state of emergency that characterized his first term to the current period of stability.
