The Anambra State Executive Council has approved far-reaching measures to tackle erosion and students housing deficiency.
This was the outcome of this week’s Executive meeting of the Council held at the Light House, Awka.
The meeting, chaired by Governor Chukwuma Soludo focused on deepening governance, expanding access to justice, and accelerating development across the state.
Aside other resolutions the meeting decided to strengthen the government’s rural and urban development Programme which operates under the Public-Private-Community Partnership model and mobilise prominent individuals and the 179 communities in the state to partner with the government in providing critical infrastructure such as roads, schools, and medical centres for the citizens.
The Executive Council also resolved to partner with private investors for the provision of adequate and affordable hostel accommodation in tertiary institutions across Anambra State.
In a statement the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Doctor Law Mefor notes that the hostels will be delivered through the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangement to give students a safe and complete campus experience.
The statement emphasises that the Council further approved the strengthening of the state’s Grievance Redress Mechanism to ensure timely and fair resolution of complaints from citizens.
The statement indicates that the Council also directed expanded sensitisation on the use of Small Claims Courts established by the State government to resolve small civil disputes quickly and at low costs.
The statement further discloses that the Council approved the sum of Five Hundred and Fifty-One Million, Nine Hundred and Eleven Thousand, Two Hundred and Five Naira, Eighty-One Kobo for general external works on the permanent building at the Solution Innovation District in Awka.
