A five- man Special Investigative Committee has been constituted by the Abia state government to probe allegations of harassment, bribery and certificate forgery against some staff and students of the Abia State University Uturu.

Briefing Newsmen at the Government House, Umuahia after this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, said the committee is part of efforts to uphold high academic and ethical standards in the institution.

Prince Kanu said the committee which has the Chief of staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba as the chairman is expected to identify the perpetrators and make appropriate recommendations on how to sanction them.

The commissioner further stated that the committee would determine the extent of the implementation of the white paper on the 2024 Investigation Panel to the university and to identify implementation gaps.

The Commissioner also announced that 2026 Annual School Census in the state has commenced with the objective to provide the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education reliable data for planning and policy formulation.

He further explained that the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board had organised a capacity-building programme for 265 Headteachers and 306 Early Child Care Development Education Teachers to improve school management and learning.
