The Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District, Chief Kevin Chukwu, says he has no regrets dumping the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a strategic decision aimed at connecting Enugu State to the centre of national politics.
Senator Chukwu stated this at the flag-off of the APC e-registration exercise at his Amurri Ward in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, where he called on Nigerians, especially APC members, to support the ongoing reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, President Tinubu has gone the extra mile to integrate Nigerians into the national development framework, particularly through reforms in critical sectors, including power, which he said would ensure better access to the national grid.
The lawmaker urged his constituents to take the e-registration exercise seriously, noting that it would prepare them to effectively participate in the electoral process and support the party’s presidential flag bearer as well as the state governor.
Senator Chukwu described Governor Peter Mbah as a workaholic and meticulous leader who is tirelessly committed to the development of Enugu State, adding that alignment with the centre would fast-track more dividends of democracy to the people.
He further disclosed that the governor had mapped out empowerment schemes for wards with the highest number of registered and revalidated APC members in the state.
The senator was accompanied by top party stakeholders, including the APC State Chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye; the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government, Chief John Ogbodo; the Enugu State APC e-registration Coordinator, Chief Flavour Eze; the APC Chairman of Nkanu West, Mr Sunday Onovo; and other party leaders and lawmakers from the zone.
Speaking at the event, Chief John Ogbodo commended Senator Chukwu for his decision to decamp from the Labour Party to APC and subsequently revalidate his membership. He appealed to the people of the area to support Governor Peter Mbah, Senator Kevin Chukwu, and Dr Ben Nwoye, whom he said would help connect the area to the centre of political power.
Chief Ogbodo also pledged to sponsor National Identification Number (NIN) registration for eligible persons yet to register, urging residents to take advantage of the exercise due to its numerous benefits.
In their remarks, the Enugu State APC e-registration Coordinator, Chief Flavour Eze, and the Zonal Coordinator for Enugu East, Mr Kevin Ede, rated Enugu East Senatorial District high in compliance and participation in the e-registration exercise, which requires the National Identification Number, voter’s card, and other personal details.
Other dignitaries at the event included Princess Obiajulu Ugwu, Member representing Enugu South; Mr Sunday Mbah, Member representing Enugu East; and the APC Chairman of Amurri Ward, Mr Mike Nwankwo.
