The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, South-East Zone, has commenced its zonal conference in Awka, with a call for greater collaboration and standardisation of legislative procedures among states in the region.
The conference, hosted by the Anambra State House of Assembly, brings together Speakers from across the South-East to deliberate on issues aimed at strengthening legislative practice and improving efficiency in the region.
Welcoming the visiting Speakers, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and Zonal Vice Chairman of the Conference, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, received his counterparts from Enugu and Ebonyi States, Mr Uche Ugwu and Mr Moses Odunwa, respectively.
Mr Udeze also led the visiting Speakers on a facility tour of Solution Fun City and Anambra Country Club, where they inspected some of the projects and facilities provided by the Anambra State Government.
Speaking during the tour, the visiting Speakers expressed satisfaction with the level of development witnessed in the state, particularly the infrastructure and other facilities, and commended the Anambra State Government for its investments in development.
The conference is themed, “Legislative Review and Standardization of Procedures Across South-East States.”
It is expected to provide a platform for the Speakers to review legislative procedures, strengthen inter-state collaboration and promote greater uniformity and efficiency in the operations of State Houses of Assembly across the South-East.
The conference is part of efforts to deepen cooperation among South-East legislatures and enhance their capacity to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
