Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Chijioke Ojukwu has attributed the cause of the collapse of a two storey building in Inyaba village, Umudim Nnewi on Sunday to poor construction and non adherence to building regulatory practices.
The collapse of the structure left the residents in fear as they were yet to ascertain if there were occupants inside the building before the incident.
In an interview Mr Ojukwu announced that the ministry will evacuate the occupants of the three storey building which share the same compound with the collapsed building to guarantee their safety.
The Commissioner said the three storey building will be subjected to a mandatory integrity test after the evacuation of the occupants and will be demolished if it fails necessary standard requirements .
Correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that as at the time of filling this report, the excavation is still ongoing in the site of the collapsed building and the number of casualties remains unknown.
