Over 6,000 bags of 50kg long grain rice have been distributed to more than 3,000 indigent widows in Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. The benefitting women were given two bags of rice each as part of efforts to support their livelihood.
At a ceremony held in the community, the Co-ordination of the foundation, Sir Tony Obi remarked that the exercise was a routine one when they give palliative to widows to assist their welfare.
Sir Tony observed that the founder is very much concerned about their welfare and has resolved to ensure that they are given a sense of belonging at all times.
According to him, the women had been provided with micro finance facility and empowered with fish ponds to earn a living, stressing that some of them had received houses fully furnished by the foundation as well as medical facilities among others.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State commended Sir Emeka Offor for touching lives of the indigent widows and making them receive priority attention in his philanthropic gestures.
Governor Soludo who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Onyekesi challenged wealthy individuals in the community to emulate the gesture and give to the less privileged in society.
The Governor encouraged the women to take care of their children and give them positive upbringing where they will become good and God fearing citizens for the community and the state at large.
The President of the indigent widows, Mrs Ogechi Izuka on behalf of the women expressed appreciation to their benefactor for ensuring that they do not suffer in their condition.
The overjoyed Mrs Izuka paid gratitude to Sir Emeka for paying their rents, settling their medical bills, providing them with credit facilities and other gestures while praying God to sustain him in all his endeavours.
In a remark, Sir Emeka Offor explained that the women are dear to his heart as he gives them top priority at all times.
He said the only one to receive all the glory is God who provides the resources and the enablements which makes them possible.
Sir Emeka remarked that the event ought to have taken place during the Easter period but he was indisposed. He, however, said he decided to distribute the food item now the community is celebrating “afiolu” which is a period of love and thanksgiving.
He also promised to distribute more rice to the women during Christmas period this year to complete the fourth quarter from which women would have received four bags of 50kg of rice for the year.
He commended the women for ensuring peaceful existence in their various families, promising that he would defend them at all times from people who mistreat them unjustly while advising them to train their children into becoming good citizens for their families and the community.
Other speakers at the event like the President General of the community and the traditional ruler commended Sir Emeka for the numerous things he has been in the community to better the lots of the people.
