The National Emergency Management Agency ,NEMA has commenced the distribution of 4,000 food baskets to victims of flood and other disasters in Anambra state .
The relief materials was donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, KSrelief of Saudi Arabia to the Nigerian government.
The items contained in each of the food basket are 25 kg of rice, 25 kg of beans, 2 liters of vegetable oil, salt, Tomato paste, seasoning cubes and other essential items totaling 59.8 kilogramme.
At the flag off of the distribution in Awka South Local government area , the Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar said KSrelief has remained a dependable humanitarian partner to Nigeria for many years, consistently supporting vulnerable populations through various relief interventions and technical assistance.
She noted that Anambra was one of the five states across the country that were selected to benefit from the latest gesture of the centre to victims of various disasters in Nigeria
Represented by the Director , South East Zone of the Agency, ,Mr Wilson Brandon, the NEMA Director General noted that eight local government areas , Ogbaru, Anambra East, Orumba North, Anambra West, Ayamelum, Awka South , Nnewi South and Awka North will benefit from the food baskets.
The Coordinator in Charge of the Distribution and Deputy Director Special Services in NEMA , Mrs Bolanle Ojo said a total of Twenty Four Thousand Three hundred and Two food baskets were donated by the KSrelief to the Nigeria government as humanitarian gesture.
Mrs Ojo stated that the beneficiaries had been identified by the local government authorities as disaster victims, profiled and registered by the National Emergency Management Agency and SEMA officials.
In a remark, the Acting Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency,SEMA ,Mrs Ndidi Omega noted that the agency in collaboration with NEMA, has successfully enumerated the beneficiaries to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability in the distribution of the baskets.
The Governor of Anambra state who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake thanked the federal government and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for continued support to communities who are usually impacted by annual flood incidents and promised that the state will continue to demonstrate commitment in assisting victims of disasters in the state.
