The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force for a people-centered policing across the country.
The Police boss made this known during a one-day security interactive session held in Awka, tagged “Stakeholders’ Discussion on Security in Anambra State”.
The Inspector-General of Police who was represented by the DIG in-charge of South East , Mr Kenechukwu Onwuemelie said the interactive engagement with critical stakeholders was strategic for a more collaborative and people-centered policing across the six geo-political zones.
Mr Disu while stating that security is a shared responsibility between security agencies and the citizens, explained that to have a well-secured Anambra State, the people must join hands together with the Police and other security agencies to realize a crime-free state.
He called for timely intelligence and information from members of the public for prompt police intervention in the state.
The IGP appealed for support of the Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, Vigilante Groups and other critical stakeholders in the state for robust security architecture in the state.
He added that with proper collaborative efforts, the police can easily prevent security breaches and even respond urgently when and where such security breaches have already occurred.
He noted that efforts were on to deepen police presence in every community in Anambra State and warned Officers of the command against violating laws while discharging their duties as professionalism cannot be compromised in the Force.
Mr Disu commended the Anambra State Police Command led by the Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu for an exceptional policing job, and also thanked other sister security agencies in the state for their collaborative efforts in tackling security challenges in the area.
Radio Nigeria correspondent Ifeanyi Chinwuko reports that government officials, community leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, vigilante groups, security agencies and other critical stakeholders were in attendance during the interactive.
