The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has expressed dismay over the disturbing trend of criminals disguising in uniforms of security agencies to mount roadblocks and ambush innocent residents of the state
The position is part of the communiqué of the Union’s Congress held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, NUJ Secretariat complex, Awka.
The Congress, chaired by the State Chairman, Comrade Emeka Odogwu, noted that the trend has resulted in the loss of lives and valuable property belonging to residents of the state.
It expressed deep concern over the recent attack on the Chief of Staff to the Anambra State Governor, Mr Ben Nwankwo, which led to the death of some police personnel and a civilian.
The Congress urged the Anambra State Government and security agencies to act decisively to curtail the rising wave of insecurity in the area and investigate how official security uniforms find their ways into the hands of criminals.
