Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State says his administration plans to reorganize and modernize motor parks to strengthen transport operations in the area.

Governor Soludo stated this during a meeting with leaders and owners of major parks in the state held at Government House, Awka.

Governor Soludo explained that the process would begin with an overhaul of park operations, including upgrade of facilities in the park environment, waste management, security among others.

He said the goal was to ensure maximum convenience and safety of commuters.

The Governor therefore directed both private and public park owners to open their parks every Monday or face penalties, reiterating that they must not obey directives from non-state actors.

The Governor noted that transport remains the backbone of every economy and directed that any park that fails to open on Monday will be sanctioned from operating for the rest of the week with a fine.

He added that a code of conduct would be issued to regulate activities in the state’s parks, saying that under the new framework, every park must meet minimum operational standards while maintaining a register within its premises.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, explained that under the law, any motor park that closes on a Monday due to an illegal sit-at-home order commits an offence punishable by three years imprisonment or a fine of ₦20 million.

In a speech, one of the park leaders, Mr. Vincent Ukwuoma thanked the governor for his development strides in the state
but observed that a good number of parks that already operate on Mondays face challenges attracting passengers from other states.
