On the occasion of this year’s World Children’s Day,the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, wants concerted efforts to ensure that children’s rights are respected.
The Chief, UNICEF Field Office,Enugu, Mrs Juliet Chiluwe stated this during the celebration organised by the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development and Enugu State’s Children’s Parliament with support from United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, held at Enugu.
Mrs Chiluwe noted that Implementation of the Child Rights Law across the the states would ensure that child abuse and neglect is stopped.
She called on the pupils and students that gathered for the event to be committed to their studies and be of good behaviour to actualize their dreams.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ngozi Enih restated the state government’s commitment to the wellbeing, Protection and development of children in the state.
She equally commended UNICEF for its supports and for the humanitarian works the organisation had been doing in the state.
The pupils and students that attended the event thanked UNICEF and the Enugu State Government for the refreshments and entertainment, promising to be of good behaviour and dedicated to their studies.
